CID team arrives in Golaghat to investigate Rs 50-lakh case incident

A CID team lead by Additional Superintendent of Police Geetanjali Doley arrived in Golaghat on Saturday to investigate the Rs 50 lakh incident under Golaghat police station.

GOLAGHAT: A CID team lead by Additional Superintendent of Police Geetanjali Doley arrived in Golaghat on Saturday to investigate the Rs 50 lakh incident under Golaghat police station.

A case was registered in Golaghat police station U/S 403/411/420/428/120B against alleged carrying of a huge amount of money during curfew by two illegal liquor mafia of Silanijan in Karbi Anglong district. The CID took charge of the case from investigating officer DSP Mardhurjya Baruah.

Notably, in the evening of July 9, during police checking under the supervision of Additional SP Anjan Pandit at Tokani circle of Golaghat town, Golaghat police recovered a huge amount of money from an Innova vehicle. The money was hidden in a fruit carton in the luggage cabin.

Golaghat police seized the money and arrested two persons - Raghubir Singh and Bir Chand. The seized money amount to around Rs 50 lakh.

Interestingly, without registering any case against the liquor mafia for carrying so much money without legal documents, Golaghat police handed over the case to the Income Tax Office and released the two illegal liquor mafia, Raghubir Singh and Bir Chand. After that various questions were raised as to where this money was going to be delivered and to whom. In this matter, the Golaghat police had no any clear answers.

After facing pressure from the media and the Chief Minister's office, Golaghat Police registered a case against the liquor mafia on July 12. Later, Special DGP GP Singh summoned former OC of Golaghat PS, Deepak Bora, constable Imran Hussain, OC Khatkhati PS and Additional SP Anjan Pandit for inquiry into the matter.

Deputy SP Madhurjya Baruah was engaged as investigating officer of the whole incident.

On Saturday, the CID team led by Geetanjali Doley arrived in Golaghat and took over the charge of the investigation.

WEBINAR HELD: An online students' webinar on 'Aim in Life and Personality Development' was organized by IQAC, HPB Girls' College, Golaghat.

The talk was inaugurated by Principal Dr Bipul Ch. Bhuyan, who spoke on the need of personality development and value education. Dr. Palash Handique, IQAC coordinator, delivered the welcome speech. Noted motivational speaker of the State, Diganta Biswa Sarma delivered the main lecture. Sarma, a staunch follower of Sri Aurobindo and Swami Vivekananda, emphasized the role of youth in the progress of the nation and society.
