Civic body polls: BJP wins all 6 boards and town committees in Dhubri

DHUBRI: BJP swept civic body poll winning all the six boards and town committees in Dhubri district results which were declared on Wednesday. The counting of votes started for three civic bodies- Dhubri, Gauripur and Golokganj under Dhubri Sub-Division in the Dhubri Zila Parishad while counting for Bilasipara, Sapatgram and Chapor was held at Bilasipara in the morning and by 12 noon all the results were declared.

In Dhubri, BJP got the majority in 16 wards of the Dhubri Municipal Board by winning in 11 wards. AGP won in two wards, Congress in one and independent candidates in two wards.

Talking to The Sentinel, one of the senior BJP leaders and former Dhubri district President, Dr Debamoy Sanyal, who contested from ward no 2 of Dhubri town, after winning said that the party was going to form the Dhubri Municipal Board.

"Dhubri town is a historical town and works have already been done to protect and preserve the historical sites with beautification and construction of roads and load bearing drains. But still many more works are yet left to be done in some wards, which will be taken up along with continuing the ongoing works," Dr. Sanyal assured.
