Civic body Udalguri Municipality Board slammed for high property tax

KMSS criticized the Udalguri Municipality Board for ignoring the cleanliness of the town area and civic amenities in the town area.

TANGLA: The Udalguri district committee of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) slammed the Udalguri Municipality Board for imposing 'excessive' imposition of property taxes upon the civilians living under the jurisdiction of Udalguri Municipality Board. In a two page memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Udalguri Deputy commissioner on Friday the KMSS said that in the post-covid period, the living standards of common people in the State, including Udalguri was adversely affected and the people were trying to overcome the economic stress and at such a critical time the Udalguri Municipality Board has imposed an excessive property tax with effect from the April 1 last in the name of Pilot Project while the State government through a notification would collect the new version of property tax from April 1 of 2023.

The KMSS memorandum signed by Dipak Sarma and Satram Borah, president and secretary, respectively of the Udalguri district committee of the organisation said that this excessive property tax cannot be accepted at any cost. The organisation also criticized the Udalguri Municipality Board for ignoring the cleanliness of the town area and civic amenities in the town area. The KMSS memorandum demanded to stop such excessive property tax and take reasonable stand to ease the civic life.
