KOKRAJHAR: A new student body, Bodo National Students' Union (BNSU), was formed on Monday in Kokrajhar town to work for the welfare activities of Bodo students. The new student body was formed with Banjit Manjil Basumatary as president and Dr. Nijwmgwra Brahma as general secretary. Banjit Manjil Basumatary is the existing general secretary of Bodoland Students' Union (BSU).

Soon after formation, a team of the ABSU, Kokrajhar district committee reached to take note of the formation of the new student body when a clash between the members of the ABSU and newly formed BNSU took place. A heavy exchange of arguments between the two groups broke out.

The president of the new student body Banjit Manjil Basumatary said, "A group of ABSU members came to the venue where they formed the new body and started smashing the chairs by creating hue and cry. Everybody has the right to form associations democratically to work for the society. No one has the right to oppose the formation of the association."

Meanwhile, the general secretary of the ABSU Khanindra Basumatary said the new body wants to smash down the BTR accord which is the outcome of the movement of the people. The leaders and members of the BNSU are from Bodoland Students' Union (BSU), the student wing of the BPF and formation of this body is nothing but to divide the society and take them in the wrong direction, he said adding that they will not tolerate further division in the society for political interest. He also said the members of the BNSU started to attack the ABSU activists while they went to discuss the formation of a new body and alleged that ABSU members attacked them.
