Nalbari: The visit of BJP Leader Satya Ranjan Borah led to a clash between his supporters and the protestors who were protesting the leader's arrival in the district on Sunday. A large number of people including police officials were injured in the clashes. Police had to resort to lathi charge and fired in the air to bring the situation under control.
In response to the leader's alleged provocative comments against a particular community, the Dhamdhama-Kadamtal Road at the Garbhitor village was blocked by the protestors on Sunday morning. The news of Borah's arrival in the village ignited around hundreds of locals, who stopped him from entering the meeting area in the Kadamtal village. The police reached the spot of protest immediately to manage the crowd. Although the protest started on a non-violent note, it subsequently turned into a violent clash between the two groups, the supporters of the leader and the protestors.
The situation got out of control when the protestors started pelting stones at the police officials forcing the police to use their batons and fire in the air to control the crowd.
Meanwhile, Satya Ranjan Borah along with his followers left the protest spot with police escort. The meeting on Sunday was called off due to the clashes that broke out living many injured.
