Clean sweep for BJP, AGP in Darrang district

Ruling BJP and AGP alliance is going to form all the three civic bodies in Darrang district

MANGALDAI: Ruling BJP and AGP alliance is going to form all the three civic bodies in Darrang district as out of the total 31 wards, BJP grabbed 20 wards while its partner AGP has won in six wards. Independent candidates have managed to win five wards. Opposition Congress has failed to open its account.

In the district headquarters town of Mangaldai, BJP's projected chairman Nirmali Devi Sarma has won from ward no 1 by a margin of 467 votes. BJP candidate Swapan Kr Ghosh, Achyut Das, Subrata Sil have won from wards number 3, 4 and 5. Ward no 7, 9 and 10 were also bagged by BJP candidates Taramai Das, Girija Nath and Kalpana Saharia respectively.

AGP candidates Abdul Jalil and Minjuwara Begam have grabbed wards number 2 and 8 respectively while the lone independent candidate Bhaben Kalita was declared winner at ward no 6. In Kharupetia municipality, BJP candidate and former chairman Krishna Saha won from ward no 1. BJP has bagged six more wards in the municipality out of the total 11 wards while independent candidates Apurba Saha, Asish Nandi and Bharati Haloi have also come out with the winning smile. BJP's ally AGP has bagged two wards. In the ten wards of Sipajhar municipality, BJP has won in seven wards while its partner AGP bagged both the wards they had contested. Debajit Nath as the only independent candidate has won from ward no 2 of the newly formed municipality.
