Cleanliness drive conducted near Jiya Bharali River bridge in Sonitpur, Assam

The youths of the area conducted the cleanliness drive near Jiya Bharali River bridge in Sonitpur to welcome New Year with a healthy and clean environment

Sonitpur: A cleanliness drive was conducted near Jiya Bharali River bridge at in Sonitpur district of Assam on December 31, 2020, for New Year's Eve.

The cleanliness drive was carried out by the locals of the area.

The place has been cleaned for the visitors who visit the spot for picnic from various parts of the state in the New Year. They have also built bamboo fences around the plants in the area.

The drive carried out by the youths aimed to build a healthy and clean environment in the New Year.

As special guests, senior social worker of the region, komison Mili, and many other respected persons were present at the programme.

Senior social worker Komison Mili said, "We should encourage and give importance to such activities of the youths of the current generation."He said cleanliness would bring a positive message to the society.

Earlier, on December 26 a day-long cleanliness and awareness drive was conducted in the Kameng River in Tippi area of West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh by the Khellong Forest Division which covered over 3 kilometre distance from the Dwang Gate.

And in Aizawl a three-day long cleanliness drive from October 1 to 3 was carried out by 46 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 23 Sector Assam Rifles to commemorate150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Swach Bharat Abhiyan is a countrywide campaign initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to improve Solid Waste Management (SWM) and open defecation. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the year 2014 in his very first Independence Day speech to make India clean and green by 2019 synchronising with 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
