LAKHIMPUR: "Our pledge is to ensure equal development to all without injustice to anyone. If we have agitation-free Assam for next 5 or 6 years, there will be no problem in the State. Development can be ensured everywhere and Assam will be one of the most prominent States of the nation," said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Lakhimpur on Friday.
The Chief Minister said so while addressing a large public rally at Ghunasuti after conducting the "Bhumi Pujan" for the construction of the Ghunasuti-North Lakhimpur Connecting Bridge over the River Subansiri at Ghagar Ghat. The public rally was organized at Jonki-Panei Kshetra, Miri Jiyori College at Ghunasuti.
In his lecture, the Chief Minister further said that Ghunasuti Bridge was just a long cherished dream over the years for the people of Lakhimpur. "This bridge was just a subject matter of the fiction. The bridge will be constructed with the investment of a fund amounting to Rs. 383 crores and the construction will be completed by 2026. "I have promised that the construction work will be carried out day and night in a warlike manner and will be completed within the specified time frame," Dr Sarma added.
Notably, Dr Sarma laid the foundation stone for the construction and implementation of 13 developmental projects in Lakhimpur district on Friday in line with the ambitious 'A Fortnight for Development' (Bikashor Babe Eta Poshek) campaign, initiated by the Government of Assam, which commenced from December 5 to December 19.
These projects include, the construction of Ghunasuti Bridge connecting Ghunasuti and North Lakhimpur town over River Subansiri, Inter-State Bus Terminus in North Lakhimpur, Downstream Protection Measures of the River Subansiri (Phase-IV), Lakhimpur Sports Complex at Saboti (Phase-II), Road from Tekeliphuta to Lotasur on the right embankment of the Brahmaputra under Dhakuakhana subdivision, 33/11 KV Electrical Sub-Stations at Sonari Chapori, Goroimari and Mornoi, Road on Ranganadi left bank embankment from Amtola to Ampora, construction of retirement at Teliapothar area on Subansiri right embankment along with canal-cutting and pro-siltation measure. Dhakuakhana Bisturam Doley Sports Complex (Mini Stadium), construction of Rangajan Road, Debera-Angarkhowa Road, modernization of Lakhimpur District Library, construction of workshop and laboratory of Women's Industrial Training Institute in North Lakhimpur, Road to Madhupur from zero point on the right embankment of River Dikrong and construction of residential building at Ward No. 13 of North Lakhimpur town. On the same day, the Chief Minister also inaugurated 13 projects, including the Lakhimpur Planetarium, Lakhimpur By-pass along with several roads and bridges and dedicate them for the public services. These entire projects have been implemented by investing a total fund amounting to Rs. 1031.61 crore.
During the visit to Lakhimpur district, the Chief Minister along with Health Minister Keshav Mahanta, also launched the Statewide Special Immunization Drive 2.0 at Ghunasuti. They were accompanied by the Minister for Education and Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes – Ranoj Pegu; Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Implementation of Assam Accord, Border Protection & Development – Atul Bora, among others. Under this immunization drive, all the children will be vaccinated, while pregnant women will receive TD vaccine.
In the rally, the Chief Minister further declared that the Government of Assam would cover 7 lakh women under Orunodoi scheme in the upcoming year and then 8 lakh in the next year, that is, in 2024. Ration cards will be provided to 40,00,000 families of the State, including 10,000 families of Lakhimpur LAC and 10,00,000 families of Dhakuakhana LAC. The ration card holders will get free of cost treatment benefit up to Rs. 5,00,000 in any hospital of Assam as well as of the nation as per outcome of an aspiring initiative on the part of the Government of Assam. The Chief Minister also declared that the government would grant land right to the inhabitants of VGR and PGR lands, except the inhabitants of the Forest Land, by providing them to the Myadi Patta to the land on which they are presently residing. The initiative will be taken under Mission Basundhara. In this connection, the Chief Minister inaugurated the ceremonial distribution of Myadi Patta to 400 families in the event, stated a press release.
