CM Sarbananda Sonowal distributes rice mills to beneficiaries at Majuli

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday took part in a programme organized by Deori Autonomous Council

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday took part in a programme organized by Deori Autonomous Council at Major Deori Gaon, Majuli and felicitated 27 meritorious students of the Deori community while providing financial assistance to them. At the same programme, he distributed cheques of financial assistance to women self help groups (SHGs), progressive farmers, poor patients alongwith rice mills to 34 beneficiaries under various schemes of Deori Autonomous Council.

The Chief Minister also felicitated noted writer, poet and litterateur of Deori community Bidyasagar Deori.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said leading personalities of Deori community like Bhimbar Deori had contributed immensely in the nation building process while strengthening the bond of unity among various communities of Assam. Urging the Deori youths to follow the ideals of Jananeta Bhimbar Deori, Sonowal highlighted the hard work and intelligence exhibited by the stalwart due to which he garnered appreciation from the learned section of the society during the time of India's freedom struggle. He also informed that the present State government has been striving to provide a life of dignity to all communities of the State and said Deori Autonomous Council has been able to implement many developmental activities for the community.

Stressing on the need to become Atmanirbhar in all sectors, Sonowal urged the farmers to work hard to increase agricultural production so that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Atmanirbhar India can be achieved. He urged the people of Majuli to take pledge to capture world market with their produce and he highlighted Central Government's sincerity to solve the perennial problem of floods in Assam by constituting North East Water Management Authority.

The Chief Minister also informed about State government's initiative to provide Rs 3 crore to the corpus fund of Deori Sahitya Sabha under Bhasha Gaurab scheme and release Rs. 50 lakh for the construction of Major Deori Rangamancha at Majuli.

MP Pradan Baruah, MLA Dr. Ranoj Pegu and CEM of Deori Autonomous Council Madhab Deori also spoke in today's programme. MLA Bimal Bora, DC Majuli along with other dignitaries were present on the occasion, stated a press release.
