GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a Pre Engineered Building (PEB) police barrack at Jengraimukh, Majulialongwith virtually laying foundation stones of another 71 police barracks in different parts of the State.
Notably, State government has taken up construction of 100 PEB police barracks in the first phase and out of those, foundation stones of 72 police barracks have been laid today. The works of the rest 28 police barracks would be started after the completion of election process in BTR and Tiwa Autonomous Council areas. The scheme has been implemented under MOITRI initiative of the State government and it will be executed by Housefed.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated that today was a historic day for the people of Majuli as a statewide project had been launched from the river island district. Stressing on the importance of good working environment for police personnel of the State, Sonowal said the State government has been strengthening police infrastructure in the State through the MOITRI scheme and a lot of success has been achieved in facilitating and enabling environment for the police personnel of the State. He also lamented the lack of sincerity on the part of the previous State Governments in development of police infrastructure.
Highlighting the success of Assam Police in controlling insurgency, drug paddling, crimes against women etc., the Chief Minister said the image of the police force has improved in the last few years and the police have come closer to the public where initiatives such as MOITRI have also contributed.
Later, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constituted Upper Majuli Revenue Circle alongwith inaugurating four schemes for providing protection to Majuli from flood and erosion. In that programme, Sonowal distributed smart phones to the GaonBura (Village Heads) under a scheme of Revenue and Disaster Management Department while ceremonially distributing vehicle keys to the beneficiaries of Majuli under MukhyamantrirGramyaParibahanAchoni of Transport Department.

HAILAKANDI, Nov 29: Coinciding with the foundation stone laying ceremony of 72 police barracks in the State by Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal in Majuli, a programme was also held at the Police Reserve complex to mark the occasion here on Sunday.
Hailakandi is one of the selected districts where a 70-bedded police barrack will come up at the Police Reserve complex under the MoitriYojana in the first phase. Altogether 200 police barracks designed with pre-engineered building technology (PEB) will be constructed in different districts under the MoitriYojana, accommodating around 14,000 police personnel.
DHUBRI: Foundation stones of three police barracks were laid in Dhubri Police Reserve ground on Sunday. The barracks will be constructed at Dhubri, Sapatgram and Tamarhat in Dhubri district.
Three foundation of Dhubri, Sapatgram and Tamarhat were laid by Bilasipara (East) legislator, Ashok Kumar Singhi, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, AnantLalGyani and Superintendent of Police, Anand Mishra respectively.
SILCHAR: Foundation stones for construction of three police barracks allotted to Cachar were laid at the Police Reserve complex here on Sunday in the presence of MLA, SilcharDilip Kumar Paul, MLA, Katigorah, Amar Chand Jain, MLA, Borkhola, KishorNath, DIG (SR) Dilip Kumar Dey, DC Cachar, KeerthiJalli and SP, BhanwarLalMeena. Police personnel and their families were also present on the occasion.
At the outset all the dignitaries were greeted with traditional gamocha.
BISWANATH CHARIALI: At Biswanath Chariali too, arrangements were made simultaneously in the SP office, Biswanath to lay the foundation stones of the allotted three barracks which are to be built at Falfali, Biswanath Chariali, Gingia Police Station campus and Ghahigaon Police Outpost. Biswanath Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police Saurabh Jyoti Saikia, DSP (HQ) Muzaffar Hussain, Police Staff, VDP personnel etc were present on the occasion.
TEZPUR: The foundation stone laying ceremony of a PEB Police Barrack under the State government's Moitri Scheme at Police Reserve, Tezpur was held here on Sunday in the presence of Tezpur MLA Brindabon Goswami, Deputy Commissioner Sonitpur Manvendra Pratap Singh, Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta among others.
