Guwahati: Celebrated on the first day of 'Kati' month of the Assamese calendar, Kati Bihu marks the emptiness in the granaries of an ordinary Assamese cultivator's house. It is the only Bihu, which keeps aside the colourful festivities. Instead, prayers are offered so that the paddy sowed in the fields yield a good harvest.
Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal conveyed his wishes on Kati Bihu through Twitter.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, a lot of lives have suffered and are having a hard time to make ends meet.
The Bihu is celebrated by lighting earthen lamps in front of the Tulsi plants and in the paddy fields. The cultivators pray for the good health of the crops.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, finance, education, PWD and health and family welfare minister greeted the state through Twitter.
