Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday unveiled the foundation
stone of rebuilding and development work of 1.5 km of Brahmaputra Riverbank
(Ananta Nallah) along with protection of Sarbananda Singha Kshetra and Guijan
and its adjoining areas at Tinsukia.
The project initiated under DONER Ministry's special
infrastructure development fund with an expenditure of Rs 18 crore would
protect a total area of 11 thousand hectares in Guijan from erosion.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Sonowal said that the
project would make the area one of the most attractive tourist destinations
along with safeguarding the land of Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha from erosion.
He said, after the completion of the project, the
beauty of the Guijan areas' as well as the biodiversity hotspot of
Dibru-Saikhowa will be enhanced tremendously.
Calling Guijan's people to closely monitor the
construction work of the project to ensure the highest quality, CM Sonowal
thanked the various Mottok organizations of the area for raising their voices
for the project.
Lambasting the previous Congress governments in the
state for using the water resource department as a money-making tool as they
embezzled public funds, he said, the department has been revived by the present
state government and it is has been able to start erosion protection work in
November itself this year.
He also referred to the recent inauguration of 200
projects of the Water Resources Department at Sarothebari in Barpeta.
Stating that the youth of the state have responded to
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call by engaging in various fields with hard
work and dedication, Sonowal urged the people of the state to contribute to the
mission to create a developed state of Assam.
He said, with the help of the local community, police,
and forest department, Kaziranga National Park has been freed from large scale
poaching. Similarly, he urged locals to come forward to protect Dibru-Saikhov
National Park.
Keshab Mahant, Water Resources Minister in his speech
explained how the Water Resources Department has expanded its scope by not
being limited to traditional embankment building and erosion protection
functions.
He also highlighted the archaeological department's
work of preservation of historic places and monuments.
MLA Binod Hazarika also spoke at the program.
The program was attended by Rameswar Teli, the Union Minister of State for Food Processing Department, MP Pradan Barua and MLA Binod Hazarika, Minister of State (i/c) Tea Tribe Welfare Sajay Kisan, MLAs Prasanta Phukan, Teros Gowala, Bimal Bora, Bhaskar Sharma, Chakradhar Gogoi, Suren Phukan along with several other dignitaries.
