CM Sonowal visit martyred Mritunjoy Chutia's residence

CM Sonowal visit the residence of martyred Mritunjoy Chutia, paid tribute to him, and offered 20 lakhs to his family as financial assistance

Dhemaji: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday visited the residence of martyred Mritunjoy Chutia at Geluwa village in Sisiborgaon in Dhemaji districts of Assam and paid floral tribute to the portrait of the martyred.

CM Sonowal also spent time with Mritunjoy's family members and handed over a cheque worth Rs 20 lakhs as financial assistance to the family. He further announced that a children's park would be set up at the martyr's native village near his 'Samadhi Kshetra' in memory of him.

The necessary direction in this regard has already been given to the deputy commissioner of Dhemaji.

Speaking to the media CM Sonowal said, "The state is proud of the bravery of martyred Mritunjoy Chutia who sacrificed his life to safeguard the country's unity and sovereignty. His sacrifice will not go in vain as the state and the country as a whole is committed to working resolutely to the safety security and development of the nation."

Mritunjoy's sacrifice will always remain a glaring example as the younger generation will continue to be inspired by the martyred to work for nation-building, he added.

Minister of State for Revenue & Disaster Management Shri Jogen Mohan, Minister of State for Tea Tribe Welfare Sanjay Kishan, MLA Teros Gowala, Deputy Commissioner (DC), and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dhemaji were also present during the Chief Minister's visit.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Mrityunjoy Chutia was martyred at Ganderbal in Jammu and Kashmir after a grenade attack by terrorists. He was on District Development Council (DDC) election duty when terrorists attacked in Ganderbal.

According to CRPF, he had served as a constable in 115 Battalion of the security forces.

CM Sonowal on Friday took to Twitter and condoled the death of Mritunjoy and wrote, "CRPF jawan from Assam Mrityunjoy Chetia exhibited exemplary valour and made supreme sacrifice while serving the nation in Jammu & Kashmir. Praying for eternal peace of the departed soul, I offer deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We stand shoulder to shoulder with them."
