SILCHAR: The arrest of well identified coal mafia Ahad, resident of Sutarkandi near Karimganj by Meghalaya police from Byrnihat in connection with the illegal multi crore flourishing black diamond business from the coal pits of the hill state to Guwahati and down Barak Valley has sent shivers down the spine of BJP leaders whose names have been highlighted in media umpteen times with no change in their attitude and behaviour as if theirs is the ruling party in power. But, then who cares as if they are beyond the reach of the law of the land?

Not only saffron leaders, a section of bureaucrats have also figured in media reports based on the findings of a preliminary report to the CBI. Two SPs of Karimganj have to face transfer. Several social and cultural organisations have in chorus demanded proper inquiry by competent agency. But, the Sonowal Government prefers to ignore than cause action. This has sent wrong signal in public. And the talk is that the black diamond will have black impact on BJP's poll prospect in 2021 polls.

The Centre and the State of Meghalaya have taken up the investigation quite seriously after the former Governor General of Meghalaya, R S Mooshahary, sent a report to both Delhi and Shillong. The arrest of Abdul Ahad Choudhury recently is also being attributed to a case of forgery registered against him at Chleriahat police station. He is now on police remand for 7 days at Chleriahat police station where he is being interrogated. Ahad is named in a number of fraud and forgery cases. He was charge- sheeted in 6 crore Sutarkandi land port scam which was reported in The Sentinel, besides 44 other cases. He obtained bail from High Court in 40 cases. Yet he remains unmoved. He manages everything by his political and bureaucratic influence. BJP leaders are worried if during interrogations by Meghalaya police Ahad comes out with their names and many things more.
