Commandos To Be Deployed In Kaziranga NP To Intensify Anti Poaching Operation

Guwahati: In a bid to curb Rhino poaching, Commando Force will be deployed in Kaziranga National Park, said Assam Police Special Director General of Police (DGP) of Law and Order, GP Singh.

Notably, GP Singh who is also the Chairman of Assam Rhino Protection Task Force and Chief Wildlife Warden (CWLW) visited the park after the discovery of a rhino carcass.

According to reports, he reviewed the on-going anti-poaching operations on Saturday and visited the site on Sunday.

Meanwhile, taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve apprised the same and tweeted, ''Special DGP cum Chairman Assam Rhino Protection Task Force & CWLW reviewed ongoing anti-poaching operation yesterday and visited recent rhino poaching site today. Commando Force will be placed to intensify anti poaching operation.''

Speaking over the incident there, the GP Singh informed that a person has been identified in connection with the poaching and is under interrogation.

A day after Kevin Pietersen appreciated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government on the dropping of Rhino poaching in Assam, the state saw another case of suspected Rhino poaching.

According to media reports, the carcass of a full-grown Rhino was recovered on Wednesday morning at around 8:45 in Hikekahonda under Kaziranga Range in Assam.

It is worthy of mention that rhino poaching had reached its peak in 2013 and 2014, with 27 rhinos being killed each year.

The year-wise data of rhino poaching since 2000 is as follows: four in 2000; eight in 2001; four in 2002; three in 2003; four in 2004; seven in 2005; five in 2006; 16 in 2007; six in 2008; six in 2009; five in 2010; three in 2011; 11 in 2012; 27 in 2013; 27 in 2014; 17 in 2015; 18 in 2016; six in 2017; seven in 2018; three in 2019; two in 2020 and one in 2021.
