DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xebi Mancha (TZXXM), a commemorative meeting on Harendra Nath Borthakur, the Sahitya Academy award winning litterateur on children literature, was organized at Rupai Jatiya Vidyalaya on Sunday with president Atul Sarmah in the chair. In the beginning, poet and satirist, Punya Saikia lit the lamp in front of the portrait of Late Borthakur who died on June 24.

Nanda Singh Borkola, Commandant, 2nd Assam Police Battalion, Makum and literateur who took part in the commemorative meeting was in high praise for the children literature and dramas written by Borthakur and told that in view of present crisis of existence of Assamese literature, it should be the duty of every parents and guardian to teach their wards Assamese language properly and encourage them to read the quality books published in Assamese. Else, few years later from now, the books of Assamese literature would be seen to be confined in the book-selves of the libraries, he said by adding that the true tribute to the litterateur Borthakur would be when our children would be benefitted by reading the literature he wrote for the children.

The meeting was also addressed by Puny Saikia, Badan Sarma - the two advisers of TZXXM, former President, TZXXM Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury, classmate of Late Borthakur and former Principal, Doomdooma college, Dr Prafulla Medhi.
