TEZPUR: The first meeting of the committee formed to take stock of seized materials under Char Area Development Programme of Gabharu Development Block in Sonitpur district was held on Tuesday at the Gabharu block office.

The Deputy Commissioner had, in the last meeting of the District-level Committee for Char Area Development, notified this committee with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Dev) Parag Kakaty as chairperson, BDO Gabaru as member secretary and with District Agriculture Officer, Executive Engineer (Agriculture Engineer) and Assistant Director, Handloom and Textiles as members.

The five-member committee, in presence of i/c officer Bebejia Police Outpost and other police personnel, unlocked the godown and made a thorough assessment of all the goods lying unused in the godown for the last few years. The committee assessed a number of hand-sprayer machines, sewing machines, hand tube-wells, power tillers, pump sets among others and found most of the items in sealed and good condition, except for a few sprayer machines and tubewells.

The godown was sealed by the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell in 2013 following complaints regarding beneficiary selection under Char Area Development Programme. The committee will soon submit a detailed report to the Deputy Commissioner for taking further necessary action. MLA Tezpur Brindabon Goswami was also present.
