Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that a common test will be held for engineers' recruitment in the state replacing the current department-wise recruitment examinations.
Speaking during a function held, on Tuesday at Srimanta Shankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati, the Chief Minister categorically said that an APSC civil service like common recruitment test will be held for engineers' appointment in the state. The candidates will opt for their preferences.
"We will hold a common test for engineers' recruitment in the state. It will be like the APSC civil services examinations", he added.
Chief Minister Sarma also exhorted the new generation to work for the betterment of the state.
Lamenting for the state lagging behind with other states of the country in terms of development, the Chief Minister said, "We are still lagging behind as compared to other states of the country in terms of development. Recently, I visited Telangana and saw their development. What is heartening is that the geographical size and population of the state are equal to Assam. But their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is much more than ours.''
''We have to change. We have to work for the uplift of our state and people," he added.
Sarma also claimed the state government employees' work culture has been changing after the installation of the new government in Dispur in May 2022.
He also urged employees to serve the state and its people wholeheartedly.
He further added that the corrupt practice of any government employee can dishearten society.
