Guwahati: Amid talks of a Mahajoot (grand alliance) Congress MP from Kaliabor, Gaurav Gogoi visited peasant leader and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday. The jailed leader is undergoing treatment at the hospital for past several days after he had tested positive for COVID.

Speaking to media outside the hospital, Gaurav Gogoi said that he paid a visit to the peasant leader to get an update on his health as per his father's (Tarun Gogoi) wishes. He ruled out any political overtone.

"Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi asked me to visit Akhil Gogoi as he too is in the same hospital. The senior Congress leader likes Akhil Gogoi. Our political ideologies could be different, but at the personal level we love and respect each other," Gaurav Gogoi said.

Gaurav also said that they wish well for Akhil Gogoi's ageing mother, his wife and son and wishes Akhil a speedy recovery.

Tarun Gogoi is at the GMCH for post COVID treatment. He was admitted on August 26 after he tested positive for COVID. He was rushed to the ICU on September 24 when his oxygen levels had dipped. His condition is stable and continues to be under care of a medical team at GMCH.

Though Gaurav Gogoi has denied any political motive behind his meeting with the KMSS leader who has been asking all anti-CAA and regional political parties to join together to give a tough fight to the BJP in the upcoming Assam elections next year, today's meeting would definitely give rise to more speculations.

Needs to be mentioned here that AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal had visited Tarun Gogoi at GMCH on Sunday.
