LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur Assembly Constituency unit of Asom Mahila Parishad, the sister organization of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), organized its Mahila Jagaran Sabha (Women Awareness Program) on Tuesday in view of upcoming assembly election.

The event was organized at district unit AGP office, Gana Bhavan of North Lakhimpur town. It kickstarted with the unfurling of the party flag by the constituency committee Mahila Parishad president, Aruna Phukan in the chair. She also presided over the open session of the event while joint secretary Kunjalata Devi administered the swahid tarpan programme.

Inaugurating the open session of the event, Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta delivered an encouraging lecture appealing to the women members of the party to be alert and conscious until the assembly poll was over. He said that the women members of the party had played a vital role in every assembly election with regard to turning the AGP candidate winner in the Lakhimpur constituency.

Asom Mahila Parishad State president Boroda Kalita took part in the event as chief speaker. Addressing over thousand women members of the party, Boroda Kalita stated that the victory of Utpal Dutta in the upcoming assembly poll was confirmed from every angle. Criticizing the Congress, she alleged that the party had sponsored discriminating politics not only in the State, but across the nation also.

"The party committed various irregularities during the three terms of its government in the State before 2016. Prioritizing communal politics, the party has now come into alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). AGP is a secular party. We have no religious discrimination," Boroda Kalita stated while appealing to the women members of the party to work hard to make the AGP candidates winners in the election. She lauded the role of MLA Utpal Dutta with regard to empowering the women of the constituency. Asom Mahila Parishad State vice-president Tarulata Das, secretaries Sahera Laskar, Ajaya Rabha, and AGP leader Jiban Rajkhowa also addressed the gathering.
