LAKHIMPUR: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) conducted 'Swadhinatar Gouravmoy Yatra' in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday in connection with the completion of 75 years of the nation's Independence.
On this occasion, a public rally, with every participant carrying the National Flag, was taken out from Laluk Tiniali to Baramile Lachit Kshetra via NH-15 covering a 7 km-long distance. The event was organized by Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) in association with Naoboicha Block Congress Committee and Karunabari Block Congress Committee.
APCC president Bhupen Borah, general secretary-cum-in charge of Lakhimpur Congress Suruj Dihingia, joint secretary Jintu Hazarika, LDCC president Gagan Borah, Lakhimpur district Mahila Congress president Prabhawati Dhadhrai, Youth Congress working president Mouchum Lahon and other party leaders took part in the rally with more than thousands of party workers
As per this nationwide initiative, the Congress party will cover a distance of 75 km in every Lok Sabha constituency passing through each assembly constituency. It started from August 9 and it will conclude on August 15. The party will organize a State-level programme in the State capital on the concluding day.
Taking part in the rally, APCC president Bhupen Borah said that the Congress had initiated the week-long programme to mark 75 years of India's Independence and to pay honour and tribute to the freedom fighters of the nation who made supreme sacrifices to achieve freedom. "It is our duty that we should respect them. Due to their noble contribution and sacrifice, we can have the opportunity to suck the taste of freedom. Furthermore, the present generation should also be made aware of the sacrifices of the Congress leaders and workers and how they achieved Independence by fighting against the British colonial rule," the APCC president said.
The APCC president further made a scathing attack on BJP and RSS by saying that the political party and RSS did not respect the National Flag before 2001. "BJP and RSS started to respect the national flag from 2001," Bhupen Borah added.
On the other hand, the APCC president declared that Congress would forge no alliance with AIUDF in the upcoming panchayat election. "The door of Rajiv Bhavan is closed for AIUDF," Bhupen Borah said.
