LAKHIMPUR: The Congress has demanded the State Government to hike the daily wage of tea garden workers up to Rs. 351. In this connection, the Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) staged a protest programme in the office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner on Tuesday. In the protest programme, which was organized under the leadership of LDCC president Pradip Gogoi, was attended by spokesman Prasanta Gogoi, organizing secretary Dhan Mohammad, District Mahila Congress president Hafiza Begum along with the office bearers, activists of the brother-sister organizations of the political party. The protesters flayed the government by shouting a number of slogans regarding the issue.

"What happened to the BJP-led State Government's promise which was made to increase the amount of daily wage of the tea garden workers? Why is the government neutral regarding the issue despite consecutive prayers, petitions and protest initiated by the community organizations concerned? The government should do the necessary things for the comprehensive well-being of the community instead of using the people as vote banks," stated Pradip Gogoi while participating in the protest programme. LDCC submitted memorandum to the Governor seeking his intervention in support of the demand through the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur.
