KARiMGANJ: Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was canvassing here in Assam's Karimganj today slammed the Congress government for "betraying the people of Assam for the sake of votes that have kept the state disconnected from the rest of the country."
He further asserted that it is the BJP government that has ushered development in the state and connected the state with the rest of the country via road, railways and airways.
"Decades ago, this entire region was one that had better connectivity. However, the Congress' corrupt and vote-bank-based governance had made Assam one of the most disconnected states in India," said Modi.
Accusing the Congress party of dividing the state in all possible ways, Modi said that it is the BJP government that has connected the state not just physically but also culturally.
Listing out several infrastructural projects undertaken by the BJP government Modi praised the state government for the efforts in transforming Assam in every sector.
While saying that the Barak Valley has been connected to various parts of the country, Modi said that the Government is planning to develop a multimodal logistic park in Silchar to transform this region into a hub of import-export. This will provide a lot of employment opportunities to the youth and economic opportunities to the farmers.
Lashing out at the grand old party, Modi said, "Today, the BJP has a policy on one side, the BJP has leadership and the BJP has good intentions. On the other side is the Congress - which neither has a leader nor policy nor ideology."
He further slammed the Congress for joining hands with AIUDF only for the sake of getting power and termed it as a confused party that has resorted to vote bank politics, thereby obstructing the development of the region.
Terming Congress as a weak party Modi said that now it can do anything. It can join hands with anyone for votes.
