SILCHAR: Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha added a new twist to the on going controversy over Miyan Museum as he demanded a separate museum for the Bengali community of the State. On the other hand Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah alleged that the demand for Miyan Museum was actually a part of an international conspiracy to turn Assam as well as the entire north east into an Islamic country. Baruah, who was on a three day Barak Valley visit said, the ploy to convert the north eastern region into an Muslim state was chalked out in the pre-independence days. The people of Assam had thwarted the conspiracy and even today, the people would defend such move. However Assamese people should be more alert and cautious about such conspiracy.

Amid the controversy over the Miyan Museum, recently inaugurated and promptly sealed in Goalpara, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, who is also the working president of State Congress said, Bengalis of Assam in recent times voted en masse to the BJP and now it was the turn of the government to reciprocate the overwhelming support, the ruling party gained from the Bengalis. But in reality, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was always seen preaching for the preservation of culture and heritage of various ethnic communities but did nothing for the Bengalis. The community with 90 lakh population had enormously contributed to the overall development of the State. In this historical backdrop, the BJP should come up with a concrete plan for setting up a Museum exclusively to showcase the culture and heritage of the Bengalis living in Assam for generations, Purkayastha added. He clarified that Bengalis would always support the government's move for the betterment of any community but at the same time government should reciprocate this with noble gesture. Purkayastha suggested that the Museum for the Bengalis should be set up in Guwahati with a branch in Silchar.

Jayanta Malla Baruah on the hand said, Miyan Muslims were infiltrators and they actually had no culture or heritage. Miyans had a long cherished plan to grab the land of Assam and to turn the State into a muslim-dominated region by demographic change. Recent reveals of nexus among Al Qaeda, Ansarul Bangla Team with some madrasas in the State was an alarming signal for the people of Assam, maintaining this Baruah said, the demand for setting up Miyan Museum was actually a part of that game by the Jihadis. However the present government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma would definitely thwart the design, he claimed.
