New Delhi: Congress MP Ripun Bora has demanded immediate revival of the Nagaon Papermill and Cachar Mill, which are under Hindustan Paper Corporation.

It is to be noted that both the paper mills have not been functioning for the last three years.

The Congress MP raised the issue at a meeting in Parliament on Tuesday.

In the meeting, Bora informed that Paper mills have remained close amid self-reliant India sloganeering.

He claimed that they shut down the two paper mills in a bid to import paper from China.

The workers of the mills have not received salaries for over 44 months.

Many leaders have urged upon the State government to take appropriate measures soon into the matter.

The matter is now before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the hearing has been scheduled for September 21. The hearing is about the liquidation process of the mills. Cachar Paper Mill has been shut since 2015 and Nagaon Paper Mill is closed since 2017.
