Congress Will Address The Problems of Gorkhas: Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi

His visit to Udalguri has come after the Election Commission has announced the date of the by-election in one seat of Rajya Sabha of Assam.

GUWAHATI: Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has claimed that his party would take all the measures to solve the problems which the people of Gorkha community in the state is facing.

During his visit to Udalguri on Thursday, Gogoi said his party will take all possible measures to resolve the issues of the community.

During the visit to Udalguri, he also paid a visit to the Viswashanti Nepali Vidya Mandir and interacted with the women in the temple who came to observe the Haritalika Teej puja.

His visit to Udalguri has come after the Election Commission has announced the date of the by-election in one seat of Rajya Sabha of Assam.

"Congress has a glorious history. It will bounce back with new vigour," said Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.

The All India Congress Committee has appointed Gogoi as the in-charge of Assam Congress in the Bodoland Territorial Region for the upcoming by-election.

The Election Commission of India announced that it would hold the Rajya Sabha election in Assam on October 4, 2021, to fill up a single seat vacant from the state. According to the Election Commission, it will issue the poll notification on September 15. The last date for filing nomination papers is September 22, the scrutiny is on September 23, and the date for withdrawal of nominations is September 27.

The voting will start at 9 am and conclude at 4 pm on October 4, 2021. The counting will be from 5 pm on the same day. The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant from Assam with the resignation of Biswajit Daimary. He is the Speaker of the Assam Assembly now. He came out the winner in the Assam Assembly election on a BJP ticket. According to BJP sources, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's nomination to the seat is final. Currently, he is holding a berth in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet.
