LAKHIMPUR: The Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) has demanded the State Government to construct the flyover at Nakari railway level crossing in North Lakhimpur town at the earliest. The central committee of the organization reiterated the demand once again on Saturday by convening a press conference at North Lakhimpur Press Club. In this connection, the organization urged Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to initiate effective steps.

In the press conference, addressing the media persons in the presence of Lakhimpur unit vice-president Mantu Das, assistant secretary Ranju Das, organizing secretary Pranjal Borah, AYM central committee organizing secretary Anupam Saikia said, "The construction of a flyover at Nakari railway level crossing along the North Lakhimpur-Lilabari Airport connecting road is a long-pending demand raised by the people of Lakhimpur including various organizations. Known as VIP Road, the road is always a busy road. In addition to the Lilabari Airport, the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital, number of offices of various government departments, private sector nursing homes, an army camp at Saboti, several educational institutions, training centers are located by the side of the road. It is also the way for the Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science. Moreover, the road connects a larger part of northern Lakhimpur up to the Assam-Arunachal border area. The patients with critical condition, common people, students and all professionals concerned have to spend their invaluable time in vain by stopping at the level crossing during the due time of more than ten passenger trains, in addition to the goods cariers, going to Naharlagun of Arunachal Pradesh or Guwahati and other States from Tinsukia via North Lakhimpur railway station everyday. Under such circumstances, the people of the district or other districts and Arunachal Pradesh have to suffer a lot due to the non-construction of the flyover year after year."

Anupam Saikia further added that the organization held talks with Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka and Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah several times with regard to construction of the flyover. The organization also submitted consecutive memoranda in this regard to the present Chief Minister. But the holding of talk with the MLA and the MP and submission of memoranda to the Chief Minister regarding the issue have not turned fruitful till date.

"The Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital within a few days. We have cordially welcomed the step of the government taken for the same. But all provisions of hitech medical facilities, services in the LMCH will be meaningless until and unless the flyover is not constructed," Anupam Saikia added.

In this connection, the organization called upon the Lakhimpur MLA to initiate strong step to construct the flyover at the earliest for the greater interest of the public. The organization demanded the Chief Minister too to pay heed to the issue. The organization has threatened to initiate protest programme if their demands are not met. Further the organization, demanded the government to launch an inquiry into the damage of Furkuting and Rangapara flyovers.
