LAKHIMPUR: The COVID-19 pandemic situation is still grim in Lakhimpur district. Community contagion continues to affect various places till day under the district.
Simultaneously, the number of COVID-19 fatalities has also hiked in the district. On Friday, three COVID-19 fatalities were reported. The deceased person have been identified as Baharuddin Ahmed (65), resident of Maidamia near North Lakhimpur town, Suloman Barla (65), resident of Haribor Naharani under Naoboicha area and Tanwar Rahman (25), resident of No. 2 Ahmedpur under Bihpuriya area. The former two persons succumbed to the virus on Thursday night in Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh while the latter died on Friday in North Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital.
On the other hand, a total of 262 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in the district in the last two days. Out of them, 165 cases were detected on Friday while 97 cases were found to be positive for novel coronavirus infection on Saturday. On Saturday, the positivity rate was seen decreasing in the district in comparison to the previous days. On Thursday, the highest number of COVID-19 cases was detected in the district with 276 infected people.
On Friday, 165 cases were detected as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and rest 1 case was detected as per Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test. On the other hand, 91 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected as per RAT and 6 cases were detected as per RTPCR Test on Saturday. These cases were reported from Dhalpur BPHC (18), Bihpuriya BPHC (12), Naoboicha BPHC (10), Boginadi BPHC (17), Ghilamora BPHC (5), Dhakuakhana BPHC (11), Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (15) and private Nursing Homes (3). On this day, the District Health Department conducted 7,347 RATs across the district and registered 167.10 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT out of the targeted figure 6,860.
With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district during the second wave has hiked to 8,184 since April 1 of this year. Out of them, 6,921 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while 1,179 are active cases at present. On Saturday, 95 recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 53 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. During the second wave, 84 people succumbed to COVID-19 in the district.
