Corrupt Engineers of P&RD Department of Assam Held in West Bengal

They reportedly fled with an amount of Rs 52.72 lakh of the P&RD department by submitting fake bills.

GUWAHATI: The police of Dhubri arrested two engineers of the Assam Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department after they reportedly fled with an amount of Rs 52.72 lakh of the department by submitting fake bills.

According to police sources the two persons identified as Saddam Hussain and Abdullah Al-Masud Mollah were arrested from a remote village in West Bengal.

When the incident came in to light, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dhubri Zila Parishad cum project Director of DRDA, Dhubri – Animesh Talukdar filed an FIR with the police.

After the FIR, a case was registered against three persons including the two engineers and a contractor named Jahidul Hoque.

According to sources the trio submitted fake bills to the department, withdrawal the money and fled.

After the case was registered against the three persons, all of them went missing and hide themselves.

The police personnel of Dhubri started an investigation and managed to traced the location of the two engineer who were hiding in a remote village in West Bengal.

After tracking down the location of the two engineer, a team of Dhubri police rushed to the spot with the help of West Bengal police and apprehended the duo.

The police brought them back in Dhubri Sadar Police station and started an interrogation for further details into the case.

However, the third person who is contractor is still absconding.

Earlier on 24 August, sleuths of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell arrested the then Dhubri ADC (Additional Deputy Commissioner) Saibar Rahman on the charge of acquiring property disproportionate to his known sources of income, through 'corrupt' means. The inquiry is the follow-up of a case (01/2021 U/S 420/406/409 IPC R/W S 13(1)(b)/12(c) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018). The investigation of the complaint, lodged in the police station of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell, was based on an order from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
