Couple arrested for peddling drugs in Tinsukia district

DIGBOI: Digboi Police on Saturday evening arrested a couple for peddling drugs and selling illegal liquor from their residence in Jyoti Nagar area under Digboi police station in the Tinsukia district. The arrested accused couple was identified as Gangadhar Gogoi and his wife Pinki Gogoi. “We raided the residence of the accused and recovered suspected contraband weighing 5.23 grams from their possession, besides recovering illegally stored liquor from their residence,” informed Inspector Dibya Jyoti Dutta. “The couple was reportedly peddling contraband substance over a period of time in the Digboi area and based on credible information, we launched a crackdown in the evening and succeeded in the attempt,” added the official.

Meanwhile, having registered a case under 34/23 with Digboi Police Station, the accused were prosecuted u/s 379 IPC R/W sec 53(1) (c) Assam Excise Amendment Act 2018,R/W sec 21(b) of NDPS Act. The intensified form of war against drugs as declared by Assam Police has been gaining momentum across the Tinsuka district which shares border with various vulnerable districts of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
