COVID-19: Curfew relaxed from 5 pm to 5 am in Chirang district

As Chirang district has also been allowed to reduce the lockdown-like condition by the State Government considering its less number of COVID positive cases during the last 10 days

KOKRAJHAR: As Chirang district has also been allowed to reduce the lockdown-like condition by the State Government considering its less number of COVID positive cases during the last 10 days, the Deputy Commissioner of Chirang, Narendra Kumar Shah on Wednesday announced imposing of curfew hour from 5pm to 5am in the entire district by reducing the previous curfew hours.

This was informed by him in a press meet held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office at Kajalgaon in the presence of Chirang Superintendent of Police Gaurav Upadhyay, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) and in-charge Bijni Subdivisional Officer Dibakar Nath, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nirmali Baruah, Election Officer Partha Pratim Baruah and Assistant Commissioner Pratisha Dutta.

In his address to the media persons, Deputy Commissioner Shah said, "Due to decrease in number of COVID positive cases in Chirang district, the government has allowed us on experimental basis the liberty to reduce the curfew hour. So, earlier the shops which used to close at 11am, now they will be allowed to open from 5 am to 5 pm. So, from now for onwards, the curfew will remain effective in the district only from 5pm to 5am for the next seven days." As regard to inter-district movement or movement between two districts, he said that it would still remain suspended.

Apart from that, he also apprised that the activities which were allowed earlier during curfew hours such as essential and emergency services like food supply, important construction works, ambulance service, fire service, disaster management works would continue to be allowed.

As such, regarding enforcement of restrictions and implementation of COVID appropriate behavior, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Upadhyay informed that Chirang Police was ready to enforce all the orders related to COVID-19 in the interest of the citizens of the district. "All violations of COVID norms will be dealt with seriously by the police and fines will be imposed for not wearing mask or not following COVID appropriate behavior," he said. He further informed that nakas at the district boundaries would be strictly implemented so as to restrict the movement of vehicles and individuals as inter-district movement was still not allowed.

The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police appealed to all the citizens of Chirang district to strictly follow COVID-19 appropriate behavior and the guidelines of the government. They also requested the media persons to widely circulate all the norms related to COVID-19 pandemic so that Chirang district could contain further spread of coronavirus. Media persons were also apprised regarding updated COVID data and COVID vaccination status of the district during the press meet.
