According to reports, a 30-year-old government employee who was working in the Dol campus had tested positive for the dreaded contagion on Tuesday. The district administration has sealed off the 'Dol' as well as the area in which it is located (Jamuna Road New Colony).

The containment of the Dol has come at a time when Sivasagar has found itself firmly in the grip of the pandemic that is rampaging across the world. As many as 61 new cases of the COVID-19, including the Circle Officer of the Demow Revenue Circle, were detected in the district on Tuesday. Among those who were tested positive for the virus, 25 are from Amguri Circle, 15 are from the Sivasagar Circle, 13 from Demow Circle, and 88 from the Nazira Circle.

Meanwhile, in a bid to curb the spread of the COVID-19, the residents of Amguri have decided to impose a 'self-lockdown' to counter the threat posed by the viral COVID-19 disease. This lockdown, which has been brought into effect yesterday, shall last for 3 days. The local trade bodies are leading from the front in declaring the lockdown in the area that has recently witnessed a spike in COVID-19 cases in the area in the midst of the virus outbreak. The decision for clamping a complete lockdown was first considered by the Traders' Association for containing the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, the Assam Government has banned the inter-district travel of its citizens due to the COVID-19 cases until further orders. A notification signed by the Assam State Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna read, "Only emergency service vehicles have been allowed for the inter-district movement."
