COVID-19 situation grim in Lakhimpur district, 276 fresh cases detected

Two more COVID-19 fatalities were reported in Lakhimpur district on Thursday.

LAKHIMPUR: Two more COVID-19 fatalities were reported in Lakhimpur district on Thursday. They have been identified as Ditimoni Gohain (45), resident of Katharbari village under Dhakuakhana subdivision and Dulen Chandra Pathak (65), resident of Choukham Saboti near Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital. The former died at Ghilamora COVID Care Centre and the latter died at Dhalpur while on the way to Guwahati for advance treatment.

On the other hand, COVID 19 pandemic situation continues to worsen in the district on Thursday too. A total of 276 COVID-19 cases were detected in the district on Thursday. Out of them 275 cases were detected as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and rest 16 cases were found positive for the novel coronavirus infection as per Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test. The detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (15), Dhalpur BPHC (21), Bihpuriya BPHC (21), Naoboicha BPHC (128), Boginadi BPHC (21), Ghilamora BPHC (10), Dhakuakhana BPHC (30), Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (24) and private nursing homes (5). On this day, the District Health Department conducted 8,061 RATs in the nine COVID-19 test centres of the district, including the Block Primary Health Centers (BPHCs) and private nursing homes, and registered 117.51 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT in order to detect COVID-19 patients out of the targeted figure 6,860.

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has hiked to 7,899 since April 1 of this year. Out of them, 80 people succumbed to the pandemic raising the overall tally of the COVID-19 fatalities of the district up to 140 including last year's fatalities.
