LAKHIMPUR: During the second wave, the COVID-19 pandemic situation has worsened in Lakhimpur district along with the State. The number of COVID-19 cases has risen alarmingly with community contagion of the deadly virus at various parts of the district. Though the district administration and Health Department have initiated various steps to contain the rapid spread of the virus, it has infected more people with no travel histories in comparison to the earlier days.

On Friday, a total of 117 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected as per the result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted across the district. On this day, the District Health Department conducted the RAT on 1,926 suspected persons in eight COVID-19 Test Centres set up across the district. These cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban (4), Dhalpur (7), Bihpuriya (34), Naoboicha (7), Boginadi (15), Ghilamora (2), Dhakuakhana 12 and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (36).

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has hiked to 9,033 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 8,044 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 628 active cases in the district at present. On Friday, 39 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. In the district, a total of 71 people breathed their last due to COVID-19 infection till date. Notably, a total of 947 people of the district tested positive for COVID-19 during the second wave of the contagion since April 1. Out of them, 11 persons passed away due to COVID-19 and met with non-COVID death with COVID-19 positivity.
