Covid Care Centre Coming Up at Sarusajai and Khanapara Field, To have Over 200 ICU Beds

Notably, a 750-bed temporary hospital including 200-bed ICU is being set up at Khanapara field for treatment of COVID patients while the Sarusajai facility

GUWAHATI: The Assam government in the process of breaking the COVID-19 chain in the state has now considered re-opening of the Covid Care Centres at the Sarusajai facility and Khanapara field.

Notably, a 750-bed temporary hospital including a 200-bed ICU is being set up at Khanapara field for treatment of COVID patients while the Sarusajai facility will be set-up with a 400-bed Covid Care Centre.

On the other hand, the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to have 68 ICU beds while the capacity is also being enhanced at Kalapahar COVID hospital. Read more

It is to be mentioned here that all COVID facilities to be ready in the next 4-6 days and the Guwahati city will have at least 1040 beds ready for COVID patients.

Meanwhile, taking to his Twitter handle, Assam State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "Inspected sites with officials of Health Dept & PWD today and asked for work to be expedited."

On April 22, the Minister on Twitter said, "To ramp up beds and ICU facilities for #COVIDEmergency2021, I held a review meeting with Principal Secretary Health @samirsinha69, GMCH Principal & Superintendent, doctors, @nhm_assam & PWD officials. We've the template of 2020 #Covid management to count on."

Assam on Thursday reported 1,931 fresh cases of coronavirus, pushing the active cases tally to 10,571. Further, ten coronavirus related deaths were recorded today. Read more

The new cases were detected out of 73,428 conducted in the last 24 hours, of which Kamrup Metro 680, Dibrugarh at 143, Kamrup Rural at 136, and Nagaon at 103.

The deaths have been reported from Kamrup Metro (3), Karbi Anglong (2), Dibrugarh (1), Tinsukia (1), Barpeta (1), Karimganj (1), and Sonitpur (1). The total fatalities in the state touched 1,160.

The state's overall caseload now stood at 2,31,069.
