COVID Curbs: Curfew Extended in Assam till June 5: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Inter-district travel ban extended till June 5. Urban areas, curfew to continue from 12 noon to 5AM, in rural areas curfew to be imposed from 2PM

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday that the curfew that has been in place in Assam since April 27 has been further extended till June 5. This has been done keeping in view the COVID situation in the state. The Chief Minister made the announcement in Dhubri a little while back.

In urban areas, curfew would continue from 12 noon to 5 AM and in rural areas, it would be from 2 PM instead of the earlier 6 PM. The odd-even car numbers rule to continue till further orders.

The inter-district travel ban has also been extended till June 5.

Areas, where the number of COVID cases are more, would be declared as micro containment zone and the Chief Minister also said that the government would gradually stop home isolation.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that the number of deaths would come down in the next 10 days.

Assam has recorded 84 deaths and 6,221 new COVID cases on May 24. The positivity rate stands at 5.16%. Kamrup Metro continues to register the maximum number of cases at 729, followed by Cachar with 517, Dibrugarh with 512 and Nagaon with 417 cases.
