BONGAIGAON: While bad news are coming from all quarters due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a good news from Bongaigaon has brought a ray of hope. For the first time in private nursing homes of Bongaigaon, a COVID positive pregnant woman delivered a baby.

The baby was delivered in Swagat Nursing Home of Bongaigaon where this complicated operation was conducted on Wednesday. Both mother and child are going fine. Dr S K Das, owner of the hospital, said that the COVID symptomatic patient with fever and cough came to the hospital on Wednesday. "She had labour pain and was found COVID positive in RAT test. After preliminary examination, seeing her emergency condition, the operation was conducted. She delivered a healthy baby girl and baby has tested COVID negative. Though some minor complicacies arose during operation, we managed to overcome them. Both mother and child are out of danger now," Dr Das said.

Dr Das said that Swagat Hospital was using separate ICU, separate operation theatre and even separate floor for treating COVID patients. "We are taking care of both COVID and non-COVID patients in different floors of the hospital. Just few days ago we got permission to treat COVID patients in our hospital and since then we allotted a separate floor with ICU, OT facility for COVID patients. Today we successfully did this operation in that area," Dr Das said.
