COVID situation deteriorates in Biswanath Chariali

Two persons, including an employee of the SDJM’s court, Biswanath Chariali, lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Biswanath district.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Two persons, including an employee of the SDJM's court, Biswanath Chariali, lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Biswanath district.

According to information, Mahan Baruah (57), who had worked in the Subdivisional Judicial Magistrate's Court, Biswanath Chariali, died on Monday at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH). He hailed from Baruah Chuk of Chatia. Another person from Jaysiddhi of Chatia, Purnakanta Nath (42) passed away on Sunday night at TMCH due to COVID. He had been suffering from the disease since May 6.

A woman, namely Rudra Maya Newar (45) of Balijuri, North Chatiya, breathed her last a few days back. With today's death of Mahan Baruah, the death toll in the district reached up to six. The other people who lost their lives due to COVID-19 included Nani Gopal Ghosh (67) of Biswanath Chariali town, Ronju Moni Das (40) of Brahmajan, Gohpur and Anil Tanti (65) of Purupbari, Gohpur.

The COVID situation is deteriorating gradually in Biswanath district as 642 people got infected by the virus till Sunday. Though the district administration has intensified vaccination, testing and awareness programmes among people throughout the district from Chatiya to Howajan, a section of people have been seen violating and neglecting all COVID protocol in public places leading to mass spread of the disease.
