COVID Update: Assam Records 1,665 New COVID-19 Cases, 5 Cases of Fatalities

Assam, as of Wednesday, recorded 1,665 new cases of the novel coronavirus resulting in 5 COVID-induced fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Assam- As of Wednesday, the state of Assam recorded 1,665 fresh new cases of the novel coronavirus, resulting in the deaths of 5 people in the last 24 hours. The total tally of COVID-19 cases in the state now amount to 2,29,138 while the total tally of CoVID-induced fatalities amounts to 1,150. The current active cases of coronavirus in the state are 9,048. Read more

The highest coronavirus cases in Assam as of Wednesday have been reported from the districts of Kamrup Metro at 674, Kamrup Rural at 125, Nagaon at 74, and Dibrugarh at 67. 

Meanwhile, the cases of fatalities came from the districts of Dibrugarh (2), Barpeta (1), Cachar (1), and Kamrup Metro (1). 

The recovery rate from this deadly infection lies at 94.96 percent while the positivity rate is 2.68 percent. 

Over 80,25,528 tests have been conducted in the state so far. 

Meanwhile, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that all passengers coming into Assam will have to go for a 7 day mandatory home quarantine keeping in mind the massive surge in the cases of the novel coronavirus.

"For all people traveling to Assam, a 7-day home quarantine is being mandatory, in addition to the testing. Government officials and those traveling for medical reasons, and people with bereavement cases shall be exempted," he tweeted. 

The Health Minister also announced that in case Kamrup Metro crosses a thousand plus cases, all educational institutions and hostels will shut down until further notice. 

Yesterday, he also held a meeting with the officials of health, PWD, and education departments to discuss the current situation of the pandemic and its management in the state. 

The Health minister took to Twitter yesterday to announce that from May 1, the state will provide free vaccination to people between the age group of 18 to 45. 

Meanwhile, India, as of Wednesday, recorded the highest ever single-day spike in the cases of the novel coronavirus with an astonishing 3.14 Lakhs, the highest the world has ever witnessed in a single day. The total tally of active caseloads in the country presently is 22.84 lakhs taking the total number of cases registered in this country so far to 1.59 crores.
