TINSUKIA: Following vibration, a crack has appeared on the connecting slab on Sadiya side approach of Dhola-Sadiya bridge (Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu) due to movement of heavy vehicles on one side of the bridge. As a preventive measure, the traffic has been regulated.

According to Ravindra Kumar, manager of Navayuga Dhola Infra Project Ltd, during routine check-up vibration was felt on the connecting slab that raised the bracket and this comes under regular wear and tear maintenance. Ruling out any structural defect, Kumar pointed out that due to bad weather, the repair work could not be carried out as expected but assured that the bridge would be open for full traffic before Friday even as vehicles carrying 40 tonne load have been permitted on regulated manner. The company is committed to regular maintenance till 2027 after the longest river bridge was completed in May 2017, informed Kumar.
