Crackdown on illegal activities in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: A series of successful raids were conducted against illegal gambling, Ganja, cattle smuggling, fake gold biscuits bar and fake currency notes at different parts of the Sonitpur district recently.

Acting on tip off, a joint operation conducted by DSP, S Suklabaidya along with staff of Dhekiajuli PS at Palsh Patha village under Dhekiajuli Police Station in Sonitpur district and recovered 8 kg ganja from the house of Naresh Paul (67) and apprehended the person in this connection. Sonitpur police also conducted raid against gamling at Solmara village area under Salonibari Police OP and apprehended three persons. They were identified as Zalimuddin (31), Inamul Haque (32) and Salamuddin (29).

In another raid was conducted by Sonitpur police against counterfeit currency notes racket at Gudamghat Miri village under under Gudamghat Police station in Sonitpur district, and arrested two persons.

While talking to The Sentinel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Sonitpur Madhurima Das said that the arrested were identified as Suraj Ali (34) and Hazarat Ali (24). The gang printed fake Rs 500 notes and circulated them in the market by mixing them with original notes. Police team recovered one box contains 24 of 500 fake currency notes from the house of Suraj Ali. Police also seized one printing machine for making fake Indian currency notes and papers from the premises and also recovered four motorcycle bearing registration number AS 12 U1952, AS12 AD1954, AS 12AA 4553 and AS 12T6216 from them, Madhurima added.

In yet another incident of cow smuggling, a successful operation was conducted by Sonitpur Police. During the operation, a cattle-laden truck was seized at Balipara area under Chariduwar PS. Pradip Rajkhowa, OC Chariduwar said that the 23 cattle have been seized from the truck bearing registration number AS01BC-9943. Two persons were arrested in this connection. The arrested were identified as Asraful Islam and Nur Mohammad from Salsali village under Rupahi PS in Nagaon district.

A team of Sonitpur police led by SI Simanta Pathak Inspector-in-charge of Borghat Out Police post and SI Naren Chetia along with the team apprehended one Rafiqul Islam (22), resident of Kurkani village under Tezpur PS, red-handed at Borghat area while he was trying to sell the fake gold and busted his factory and also seized fake gold biscuits, 3 metal dyes, chemicals, four containers, coal and other making meterials. The whole operation was carried out under the supervision of Dr Dhananjay Ghanawat, Superintendent of Police and Additional SP (Headquarter) Madhurima Das.
