TINSUKIA: Sadiya police during a search operation shot dead an alleged miscreant Prasanta Borah (54) at Tengapani-NutanGaon in Arunachal side of Assam-Arunachal border during wee hours of Sunday after he allegedly attacked the police team. The village lies under Namsai Police Station of Arunachal Pradesh.

Satya Ranjan Saikia, ASP of Sadiya told this correspondent that Borah was a hardcore criminal and was involved in arms trafficking and had connection with extremist groups. During operation, the police had to open fire in self-defence after Borah attacked one member of the police team with sword and damaged his AK-53 assault rifle, said ASP Saikia. Terming the incident as unfortunate, Saikia further informed that slain Borah had number of criminal cases pending in Namsai PS. While family members told the media persons that the police team killed Borah unprovoked, ransacked their house and looted some cash before decamping towards Assam side leaving the body in the courtyard.
