CSIR holds training programme under 'Scientist Lecture' series

JORHAT: CSIR-North East institute of science and Technology organized 33rd Eminent Scientist Lecture, under the lecture series of CSIR-Summer Research Training Program 2020, which has been delivered by Prof. Gagandeep Kang, Clinician-Scientist, Department of Gastrointestinal Sciences Cristian Medical College, Vellore, on the topic "You Can't Be If You can't See" on Monday. CSIR North East Institute of Science & Technology (CSIR-NEIST) Jorhat, its entire SRTP organizing team under the Leadership of Director, Dr. G Narahari Sastry is working very hard with passion and enthusiasm since the very 1st phase of Lockdown for the successful conduction of Online Summer Research Training Program 2020 at the time of COVID-19 pandemic, stated a press release.

16,000 students of different disciplines are registered and are being trained in the program. As a part of Research Training, CSIR-NEIST is organizing Eminent Scientist Lecture through various online platforms like facebook Live, yotube live, MS TEAM etc., almost every day by Stalwart scientists around the country and the world to boost up the Scientific Temper of young generation as well as talking about Art, Yoga and various Social Issues for a balanced life.

Prof. Kang is the first lady to be selected as the Fellow of the Royal Society, joining science luminaries like Issac Newton, Charles Darwin among others. She has been the fellow of all three Indian Science Academies viz. National Academy of Sciences, Indian national science academy. She has developed a oral vaccine against Rotavirus. She chairs the WHO SEAR'S Regional Immunization Technical Advisory Group since 2015 and also a Infosys prize awardee.

Talking about "You Can't Be If You can't See" she said about the work she does, some of the features of life which led her to achieve whatever she is today and shared what she learned in her 30 years of careers is to have a strong foundation, family and friends and never be afraid to ask for help, be curious and ask questions, believe you can and you will solve the problem and know that you can make a difference. The main theme of her talk was different diseases in Indian people, especially in Indian children, their causes and precautions.
