LAKHIMPUR: The four-day-long National Theatre Festival organized by Abhinava Theatre, a reputed amateur theatre group of Lakhimpur, concluded with grand success. The event was held from October 28 to October 31 at Abhinava Theatre Project, located at Maj-Gaon, Bokanadi Phulbari under the district in the proscenium stage set up in a rural environment.
During the four-day-long event, a galaxy of noted personalities, who have contributed tremendously to amateur theatre, assembled in Lakhimpur from various States. In the event, several theatre groups from West Bengal, Tripura, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and the native State performed dramas of different themes and tastes and dramas of 'serious and conscious trend'. Everyday two dramas were staged during the festival from 6 in the evening.
On October 28, the agenda of the festival was dedicated in the revered memory of Sanskar Bharati central committee former secretary Amir Chanda. In that evening of the day, Dhakhineswar Sanket from West Bengal staged Rupai Saju Kotha in the Bengali language under the direction of Priyanku Roy while Abhinava Theatre staged Kadwa Sach in Hindi under the direction of Dayal Krishna Nath. The programme was inaugurated by veteran theatre personality Chandra Borah.
On October 29, Serumpur Toposhya from West Bengal staged Birohini in the Bengali language under the direction of Lumbini Kundu while Soliloquist in Hindi staged by Shanti Cultural Foundation from Uttar Pradesh under the direction of Joy Bharati and Dumur Natya Gosthi of Gigamukh staged Moru in the Mising language under the direction of Prabin Doley.
Similarly, Rudrakshya of Bihpuriya of the native State staged Iswarar Sandhanat in the Assamese language under the direction of Debabrat Kakati on October 30 while Kalabhumi from Tripura presented Antar-Dahan in the Bengali language under the direction of Bidyut Jit Chakraborty. On the concluding day, Gobardanga Mridangam from West Bengal performed Chayakrito in the Bengali language under the direction of Kushal Deka. This drama has been scripted on the basis of a famous short story written by noted Assamese story-teller-cum-Sahitya Akademi award winner Sourabh Kumar Chaliha. On the same day, Ashirbad Rang Mandal from Bihar staged Kathkaraj in Hindi under the direction of Amrit Roushan.
The second, third and concluding days' programme of the event were dedicated in memory of noted theatre personalities of Lakhimpur— Nanda Kishor Maheswari and Anirban B Gohain and Sukhdev Biswas of Sanskar Bharati respectively. On the other hand, theatre personality from Nagaon Dipak Borah, Amrit Roushan from Bihar and Bihpuriya MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan inaugurated the staging of dramas on second, third and concluding days.
In concluding ceremony, Abhinava Theatre secretary Dayal Krishna Nath, a noted theatre personality, announced that the amateur theatre group would undertake a solemn endeavour to hold an International Theatre Festival in Lakhimpur with the participation of noted theatre groups from the neighbouring nations like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka in the upcoming days.
