Cyclone causes extensive damage in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: A cyclonic storm accompanied by heavy rain and hailstorm lashed places like Kardoiguri, Motapung, Kakpathar, Dirak, Sarumechai and Bormechai of Doomdooma Circle in the Tinsukia district on Wednesday evening caused extensive damage to dwelling houses, besides uprooting trees.

The storm also caused damage to CI sheets of many houses in Lajum, Chengelijan, Kalita Chuk, Sarumechai, Dirak, Rangpuria and other villages. In Chengelijan village, the houses of six families were badly damaged due to trees falling on the roofs.

According to Circle Officer (CO), Doomdooma Revenue Circle, Ranonmoy Bharadwaj, the cyclone affected about 5,000 people in 60 villages under the Doomdooma Revenue Circle and assistance was provided to the affected areas by the district administration since Thursday morning. Bharadwaj said the administration had taken steps to provide compensation to the affected people soon.
