Cyclone: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Cachar issues advisory

The Cachar District Disaster Management Authority has informed about the do’s and don’ts of the time before and after the onset of the cyclone.

SILCHAR: The Cachar District Disaster Management Authority has informed about the do's and don'ts of the time before and after the onset of the cyclone.

The Cachar district administration and the district disaster management authority have urged all to abide by the rules to protect the lives and property of people. Before the onset of the cyclone season, it is important to inspect homes thoroughly, secure loose tiles, and repair doors and windows.

The branches of the tree next to the house should be cut off. The tin sheets that have become loose in the house should be repaired and brought to a strong position. Loose bricks, signboards, etc. on the wall which can be damaged by strong winds should be removed. The house should have a few wooden boards so that the glass windows can be covered as needed. The house has been asked to have a battery-powered torch, adequate dry cell and kerosene-filled hurricane lights. Dry food should be stored indoors for use in the event of a disaster.

It has been suggested to demolish the buildings which are in useless and dilapidated condition. People have been asked to listen to the warnings broadcast on the radio when the cyclone starts and stay alert. Accurate information on the damage caused by the cyclone has been asked to be provided to the disaster management authorities, stated a press release.
