DAC poll result: BJP-AGP fail to clean sweep opposition in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji

LAKHIMPUR: Ruling parties of the State, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have failed to clean sweep the opposition in the Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) Election, 2022, which was conducted on November 8. The voters of the Deori community have rejected the BJP-AGP alliance in three seats under the Lakhimpur district and in four seats under the Dhemaji district.

Notably, there are seven DAC constituencies in Lakhimpur district. These constituencies are No. 15 Bor Deori Constituency (ST), No. 16 Bahgora Constituency (ST, Woman), No. 17 Kachikota Constituency (ST), No. 18 Pisala Cnstituency (ST, Woman), No. 19 Kina Pothar Constituency (ST), No. 20 Bongalmora Constituency (ST) and No. 21 Gabharu Tunijan Constituency (ST). A total of 23 contestants were in fray in the election covering all these seven DAC constituencies under the district.

As per result of the election declared by Assam State Election Commission on Thursday, the BJP-AGP alliance has won four seats out of these seven DAC constituencies under the Lakhimpur district. Of them, BJP has bagged three seats while AGP has bagged the rest. On the other hand, independent candidates snatched away victory from the ruling alliance from the rest three DAC seats under the district.

In No. 15 Bor Deori Constituency (ST), BJP candidate Amrit Prava Deori defeated Congress candidate Mahesh Deori by a margin of 156 votes. Amrit Prava Deori secured 707 votes while Congress candidate Mahesh Deori achieved 551 votes. On the other hand, AGP candidate Nandita Deori defeated independent candidate Joyamai Deori in No. 16 Bahgora Constituency (ST, Woman) by a margin of 138 votes. In the election, Nandita Deori secured 1062 votes while Joyamai Deori secured 924 votes.

BJP candidate Uttam Deori lost the No. 17 Kachikota Constituency (ST) seat to independent candidates Biren Deori by a margin of 94 votes. Biren Deori ensured his victory in the seat by bagging 618 votes while BJP candidate Uttam Deori managed to secure only 524 votes. Similarly, independent candidate Rinkumoni Deori won the election from No. 18 Pisala Constituency (ST, Woman) seat by defeating BJP candidate Jurimai Deori by a margin of 30 votes. Rinkumoni Deori bagged 336 votes while Jurimai Deori bagged 306 votes. Independent candidate Bijumoni Deori was also potent enough to establish her victory in the No. 19 Kina Pothar Constituency (ST) by defeating BJP candidate Bishnu Kumar Deori by a margin of 261 votes. Bijumoni Deori secured 981 votes while Bishnu Kumar Deori bagged only 720 votes.

In the No. 20 Bongalmora Constituency (ST), BJP candidate Prafulla Deori defeated independent candidates Manmohan Deori by a margin of 173 votes. Prafulla Deori bagged 471 votes while Manmohan Deori bagged only 291 votes. On the other hand, BJP candidate Rama Deori managed to defeat independent candidate Mahesh Deori in the No. 21 Gabharu Tunijan Constituency (ST) seat by a margin of 26 votes only. Rama Deori secured 333 votes while Mahesh Deori secured 307 votes

In Dhemaji district, as per result, independent candidates Deva Kumar Deori established his victory in the contest by defeating BJP candidate Bhabani Deori by a margin of 100 votes in the No. 10 Sissiborgaon Constituency (ST) seat. Deva Kanta Deori secured 885 votes. On the other hand, Bhabani Deori secured 785 votes. Similarly, independent candidate (Jimosaya People's Party-JPP) Binapani Deori defeated BJP candidate Junmoni Deori by a margin of 162 votes in the No. 11 Sripani Constituency (ST, Woman). Binapani Deori secured 683 votes while Junmoni Deori secured 521 votes.

Similarly, independent (JPP) candidate Rajesh Deori defeated BJP candidate Hemanta Deori in No. 12 Jonai Constituency (ST) by a margin of 6 votes only. Rajesh Deori secured 392 votes while Hemanta Deori secured 386 votes. On the other hand, independent candidate Jintu Sun Deori won the contest from the No. 13 Bordoloni Constituency (ST) by defeating AGP candidate Chidananda Deori by a margin of 44 votes. Jintu Sun Deori secured 434 votes while Chidananda Deori secured 390 votes.

In Dhemaji district, the highest number of candidates were in fray in the No. 14 Gogamukh Constituency (ST). Ruling party BJP managed to capture this seat only out of the five under the district. In the election to win the seat, BJP candidate Rakesh Bor Deori defeated independent candidate Dharmendra Deori by a margin of 23 votes only. Rakesh Bor Deori secured 445 votes while Dharmendra Deori secured 422 votes.

Notably, six BJP candidates, one AGP candidates, three Congress candidates, two Aam Aadmi Party candidates and 11 independent candidates were in fray in the seven DAC constituencies under Lakhimpur district while five Congress candidates, four BJP candidates, one AGP candidate, three independent (JPP) candidates, two AAP candidates and four independent candidates were in fray in the Dhemaji district.
