DIBRUGARH: The daily evening Assamese news bulletin of the All India Radio or Akashvani Dibrugarh station is going off the air from today. The audience will no longer hear the Assamese news of Akashvani Dibrugarh Kendra, which broadcast every day at six o'clock in the evening.

According to the guidelines of Delhi Prasar Bharati's memo no. 13(2) RNU-21, dated 21-10-2022, no news or news related bulletin from Dibrugarh Akashvani Kendra will be circulated from October 25. If the Guwahati Akashvani Kendra expresses its willingness, the Guwahati Center will have to get approval from Delhi for half an hour in advance.

On the other hand, the news department's show which aired on Wednesday night and the specially circulated news for the Mising community broadcast at 7.30 pm has also been stopped. The funeral journey of the news department of Akashvani Dibrugarh center had already started a long time ago. Since the establishment of Akashvani Dibrugarh Center, the people of the state have benefited from the regional news broadcast in the center.

Initially, the english master bulletin for the ten languages of Arunachal Pradesh was also prepared and translated into these languages and circulated in the Anatar Kendra of Dibrugarh. As per sources, from 1969 to 1996, bulletins were made and broadcast in ten languages of Arunachal Pradesh by the News Department. The news has been transferred to the said centre.

The then Prime Minister of India, Indra Kumar Gujral, who came to Dibrugarh to inaugurate the broad gauge train, announced that Assamese news would start from Akashvani Dibrugarh Center and from June 11, 1997, every evening from June 11, 1997, the bulletin was being broadcast in Assamese till date.

It is important to note that the decision to stop Assamese news is being taken because of the financial issues involved. The news of the closure of the Assamese news bulletin from the Dibrugarh centre, which broadcasts local news in eight districts of upper Assam, has naturally evoked a backlash.
