GUWAHATI: The Governor of Assam, Professor Jagdish Mukhi has announced the dates of the upcoming Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly. As per the announcement, the session will start in the state secretariat in Dispur on December 20, as per the official summon of the Governor of Assam.

"In exercise of the powers conferred under Article 174 ( 1 ) of the Constitution of India, as amended up-to-date, I, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam, hereby summon the Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly to meet at 9.30 am on Tuesday, the 20th December 2022 at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur." the official notification said.

The principal secretary of the Assam Assembly, Hemen Das mentioned that the upcoming winter session of the state assembly will be held for a total of five days. The session will start on the morning of December 20 and end on the evening of December 24. Before this, the Assam Assembly met for the autumn session. It was held from September 12 to September 19

This session is likely to take several important decisions regarding the development issues in the state. The dengue epidemic in the Karbi Anglong district is expected to be raised in the winter session. Infrastructure projects like the new bridges and flyovers are also expected to come up. Traffic jams in the capital city as well as the lack of ample medical facilities in the Majuli district of the state are also expected to be brought up in the winter session.

The state government of Assam took a very important resolution after Himanta Biswa Sarma took over as the Chief Minister of the state. As per this resolution, the state cabinet holds a meeting every month in different locations across the state. This step not only speeds up the decision-making process of the state but also reduces the workload on the usual sessions of the state legislature. Another key improvement is that different regions of the state get focused because of the cabinet ministers travelling to those locations.
