HAFLONG: The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Paul Barua called for an urgent meeting with all the representatives of the contesting candidates in the ensuing Assam Assembly Election, 2021.
Stressing the necessity to maintain appropriate ambience for smooth, free and fair campaigning by all contesting candidates, the Deputy Commissioner sternly instructed against the use of any unlawful means or violence putting at stake the reputation of the hill district, especially during the ensuing election. Further, he instructed all the representatives of the contesting candidates to immediately take all necessary steps to ensure that no untoward incidents occur.
He also added, "To conduct the polls smoothly is not the responsibility of the district administration alone but also all the people involved in the process of election, including the candidates and their workers. So maintaining law and order in Dima Hasao during election should be considered important by all the citizens too."
Others present during the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioners Rajib Roy, Lalrohlu Khiengte, Election Officer Md. Abdul Kalam, DSP Borkiri Terang, other officials and the candidates and representatives of all the contesting political parties.
